Get to Know Ryan
Hi! My name is Ryan. I grew up in a small town in the foothills of South Carolina. I was raised by my Mom and Mawmaw. My Mom worked two and three jobs so my brother and I were with my Mawmaw a lot. She always had a garden. Some of my earliest memories of her are of us shucking corn or snapping beans. My chores after school were to weed the garden, sow seeds, and clean veggies, and canned food among other things. Gardening has been with me no matter the stage of my life.
I named my business after my dog Pearl, a boxer. I had her for 11 years. She passed in 2018. Pearl and gardening got me through some really tough times. Both animals and plants can be extremely therapeutic.
I took the UGA Extension Master Gardener class in 2022. This class, being unhappy with my corporate job and the support of my fiancé, I took the leap to owning a small business. I am following my dream to educate and maintain my community’s plants and gardens.
There is no such thing as a black thumb. People can benefit from plants in so many ways. Lifestyle or circumstance does not matter. I want to show people this. I have been sharing my knowledge of gardening my whole life. People have brought me plants to rehab or asked me questions about their plants via text/facetime. It is a matter of effort, education and the right tools for the job.
